Short Game: Pitch Shots
Golf short game pitch shots are important to get good at to improve your up and down percentage and lower your golf scores. These are critical shots because hitting these well will enable you to have more one putts and lower your number of putts per round. I used to struggle a lot with pitch shots on the golf course. In fact, I used to make sure on par 5s I would lay up to a distance where I could hit a shot with a full swing. This is pretty common among many golfers. But once you learn the fundamentals that make up good pitching, you will be excited about having these golf shots in the future. There are a couple of tips that can dramatically help you improve your pitching. First, make sure to have a slightly narrower stance than with a full shot. Setup up with your weight a little bit forward on your front foot (your foot closest to your target). Play the ball slightly back in your stance. Keep your left wrist firm though and after impact with the golf ball. Do NOT try and scoop the golf ball with your pitch shots. Simply hit down on the ball and allow the loft of the club to make it go up in the air. There is no need to try and help the ball up in the air. Trying to do this will only lead to poor pitch shots. This information should help to improve your short game and have you shaving strokes off your game. Getting up and down around the greens will build your confidence in your golf game and allow you to lower your golf scores and have more fun.
