Tip For Short Putts: Keep Your Head Still

Keeping your head still on short putts is critical. This can be an issue because many golfers try and peek when they have shorter length putts. The ball will go into the hole sooner if they make it so there's an urge to look and see if it went in. Whereas, on longer putts, the reward or satisfaction of making the putts comes a few seconds after you hit it so there is not as instinctive of an urge to follow the ball with your eyes immediately after you've hit it.

A drill for how to do this on shorter putts is to actually count to two after you've hit your putt. This makes you keep your head down and resist looking to see where the ball goes. Any time your head moves too early as you are still stroking through the putt, your putter actually comes off the correct line or path and you'll quite often either pull or push your putts. Keep the head down and allow the putter to move through the ball and then look at where it ended up. Your ball will end up in the hole much more often if you work on this.
