Putting Routine: Learn To Set Yourself Up For More Success
Here I will discuss the importance of a good putting routine, how to develop a routine, and why this is so important to your success on the putting greens. Your putting routine should start when you are walking up the green. The first thing you should do when approaching a green and your putt is to access the terrain you will be putting on. Take a look around and notice any undulations and slopes taking in the overall contours of the green. Make sure to look at your ball from all sides of the hole and not just behind it. You will often get a different view and read of your putt from behind the hole on the opposite side of your ball than you will from right behind your ball. In your putting routine, make sure to take a couple of practice strokes to get the feel for how hard you want to hit your putt. I recommended looking at the hole several times to get your subconscious to gage how hard to putt the ball. You want to make your practice putting strokes the same length, and rhythm as your actual putting stroke. This will really help you be able to judge your distance better and gain more confidence. With a good putting routine, you will not have to second guess yourself while standing over the golf ball. You will simply make the same stroke you just made in your practice routine.
