Putting Drills And Putting Practice Tips

Putting drills are a great way to improve your putting faster. Drills are designed to make you use the correct putting technique and will get rid of any bad habits you may have with your flat stick.

Putting Drills For Success

I've gone over some of my drills that I personally use and share with my students. Some of then are fairly simple but the trick is getting a feel for them and learning to integrate that correct feel you'll get from these drills into your putting. I know you will feel much more comfortable and confident on the putting greens if you spend just a little bit of time practicing correctly and using some of these helpful drills to guide you. Good putting instruction is really important for consistent putting.

The One Handed Putting Drill

This next drill for developing a solid putting technique. It's called the one hand putting drill and it's one of my favorite drills. The reason I like this drill so much is it really helps you develop a good feel in your putting stroke. It frees up your stroke and will allow you to hit your putts with a better rhythm and develop a more consistent tempo in your putting stroke.

First stand about 4-10 feet away from a hole on the practice green. Then simply start putting some golf balls with your right hand only. Try and feel the rhythm of your putting stroke with a back and forth motion while moving nice and smooth. Then switch over to your left hand and hole some putts only using this hand. Again, feel the smooth rhythm of your stroke and the slower pace. Putting with just one hand will force you to slow your stroke down a little bit and encourage you to move the putterhead on a more correct path. When you are done practicing with each hand, then go back to using two hands and try to regain the feel you just got with the one hand drill. Feel that same pace and rhythm and feel like you use the same amount of pressure with each hand that you used during the drill. With a little bit of practice, I'm sure you will feel much more confident and comfortable with your putting stroke.
