How Good Putting Practice Strokes Can Help You Sink More Putts

By: The Putting Genius

Making good quality putting practice strokes can help you sink more putts on the greens. I’ve talked about how important it is to have a solid and focused putting routine. Good putting is a result of doing several things well. Your putting routine and practice strokes before you hit your putts will definitely affect your results on the greens.

When you are standing up close to your golf ball making your practice strokes, it’s important to do a couple of things. First of all, you want to make your practice stroke as if it is your actual stroke. This will allow you to simulate the feeling of your putting stroke when you hit the golf ball.

Many amateur golfers make their practice stokes unfocused and are just going through the motions. Then when they are standing over the golf ball, indecision is able to creep in because they are still deciding how hard to hit their golf ball.

It’s good to make a couple to a few practice strokes. This does not necessarily have to be the same amount each time. It may take a few practice strokes for you to get a feel for the speed on a slightly longer putt.

Looking at the hole while taking your practice strokes is a good idea and can really allow you to gauge the feel for how hard you need to hit your putts. Pay attention to the slopes and contours of the green because this will affect the speed of your putts.

Good putting practice strokes will really allow you to get control over your speed which is a huge key to great putting. When you can successfully two putt every green and eliminate unwanted three putts, your scores will reflect this positively. Also, when you are hitting your putts the right speed, a lot of them will end up falling in the hole. Good speed makes the hole much bigger because the ball can fall in from any angle. If you hit it too hard and over the edge of the hole, most likely it won’t fall into the cup. Get your speed down by making good practice strokes and you’ll end up sinking more putts and will shoot lower scores.
