The Basics Of Learning To Putt

Learning to putt starts with knowing the basic setup fundmentals. Make sure your putting grip, alignement, and putting stance are all correct. Then the basic putting stroke consists of the hands, arms, and shoulders all working together in a one piece motion. You want your putting stroke to be like a pendulum motion. The putter will move back and forth the same length when making your stroke. Always keep your putter low to the ground throughout your stroke. Lifting the putter up too high in the followthrough will put side spin on your golf ball, causing the putt to go off your intended line.

Reading greens is an important skill to do well when learning how to putt. Make sure to play the right amount of break on your putts so you can hit your putts closer to the hole and make more putts.

Learn And Maintain Good Rythym and Tempo In Your Putting Stroke

Pros' putting techniques all have similar common elements to them. The pros may have slightly different ryhthm in their putting strokes. However, the tempo of their strokes are always very consistent. Many amatuer golfers make the mistake of rushing their putting stroke or making it too short and jabby. Under pressure, these putting faults can become more dramatic which leads to poor results. Try to have a Smooth Putting Stroke and maintain the same tempo on a consistent basis. Keep the same tempo from one green to the next throughout your round and you will see improvement and will make more putts.
