Golf Tips On Chipping For Golfers Of All Levels

The Basic Chip Shot

Short game chipping setup fundamentals are different than for a regular golf shot. The setup for a the basic chip shot should be as follows: First, set up to the ball with a much narrower stance than you would on a regular shot. Play the golf ball back in your stance, all the way off of your right foot. Then make sure you lean towards your target, withabout 70% of your weight on your foot closest to the target. So for a right handed player, have70% of your weight on your left foot. Make sure the body leans left also and the hands are ahead of the ball.

When you are using your wedge with these chip shots, make sure to keep your weight on your left side. It is very important that you do NOT shift your weight during this shot. Keeping your weight left will promote a downward motion that will help to ensure solid contact with the golf ball. You will hit down on the ball and the loft of the club will make it go up in the air.
