The Right Golf Putters Can Help Your Game If You Have Correct Technique
Putters Can Vary In Length, Lie, And Loft Choosing a new putter or adjusting your old one can help improve your putting game. If you are putting with a conventional putter, meaning not a long putter or belly putter, the length will typically be anywhere from 31 inches to 35 inches. The pros on the pga tour are starting to use shorter length putters to improve their control and accuracy. Using a short putter can help you extend your arms a bit more in your setup and allow you to get your head directly over the golf ball. Lie and loft of the putter you are using is also significant. Too much loft with a putter can make your golf ball come off of the face too high and can give a less consistent roll with the golf ball. The lie is important because you want to make sure the putter is flat on the ground with the toe and the heel off the ground the same amount. If the toe is too far up in the air, the heel of the putter can catch on the ground during your putting stroke. The easiest way to hit the sweet spot consistently is to get the middle of the putter on the ground and not the toe or the heel. Should You Change Putters? First of all, if you are searching for a putter to improve your putting, it's possible you may be on the right track. However, let me suggest that 80-90% of the time, simple improvements in your putting technique or stroke will do much, much more for you than a new putter will. I see golfers often switching putters to try and shave a stroke or two off their games. Or they think that changing their putter is the answer to their putting problems. Most often this is not the case.
