Golf Chipping Tips For Around The Greens

The Basic Chip Shot

Check out Golf Tips On Chipping for more information on the correct chipping fundamentals.

Hit Down On The Golf Ball And Allow The Loft Of The Club To Make It Go Up In The Air

A very common fault is a player will try to scoop the ball instead of hitting down on it and allowing the loft of the club to get the ball in the air. Also, make sure that your hands, arms, and shoulders all work together in one piece. Don't simple try to hit with only your hands. Make sure you are making a nice, smooth motion where the arms, hands, and shoulders all work together.

The Bump And Run Chip Shot

Learning the Bump and Run chip shot is a very effective way to chip when you have a lot of green to work with. When there is plenty of green between yourself and the hole, this would be a good time to get the ball on the ground rolling towards the hole as soon as possible.

Only try and hit a Flop Shot when there is little room on the green between you and the hole. The flop shot is an acceptable shot to hit in extreme cases where the pin may be tucked or real close to the edge of the green. Out of the rough, you'll want to open up the clubface more because you will not be able to spin your shots as easily.

The Basic Short Game Pitch Shot

Now, when you get a little bit further away from the green, say 15-50 yards or so, you'll be hitting what is called a Pitch Shot . These are easy shots to master once you have the right techniques combined with a little bit of practice. Control Your Distance on your pitch shots and learn how to dial them in like the pros do. Again, these shots are relatively simple and should become easy for you once you have the basic idea of how to hit them.

Also, getting good at your pitching and chipping short game shots will of course improve your putting stats because you'll be hitting the ball closer to the hole. Now you may want to review Short Putts since you'll be having a lot more of these when you are hitting your wedges close to the hole.
