The Flop Shot

How To Hit A Flop Shot

Basically this shot is very similar to a Bunker Shot . On the setup for a flop stance, take an open stance with your feet and body aligned to the left and open up the clubface quite a bit. It's very important to open up the club face when hitting a flop shot. You want to open the face to add loft to the club. This shot requires that the golf ball is hit up high in the air and lands softly without much forward roll once it hits the green.

Typically a this shot is hit out of the rough when you are in a tight spot. Don't try this shot if you have enough green to work with so you can land the golf ball and allow it to roll to the hole. The flop shot is a high risk shot and should only be used when it's the only shot that makes sense to hit.

So in the setup, with the face wide open. Make a full backswing and try to hit an inch or two behind the golf ball. You'll actually be hitting the rough and the ball will pop out and hopefully up in the air nicely.
