Learn Feel In Golf Putting And Eliminate Three Putts
Develop Better Feel In Golf Putting
Learn how to get a good feel in your golf putting stroke will help you hit your long putts closer and make more of them. Building confidence with you speed comes from practicing. I recommend spending time on the practice putting green before or after you golf rounds to work on your putting.
Try to hit different length putts in your warm up sessions. This will allow you to get the feel for different length putts on the greens. A helpful tip is to pace off your putts. This will be an extra tool you can use to try and judge the speed of the putt and how hard you need to hit it.
Long putts take a longer putting stroke, but make sure to keep your tempo the same on long putts as it is on shorter putts. With longer putts, you'll want to vary the length of your stroke, but do not try to putt with a faster stroke. This will lead to inconsistency. Make the same stroke on longer putts just make the stroke longer and you'll soon get the feel for how to hit your long putts closer to the hole.
Putting Drill For Better Putting Feel
Another helpful drill is to go the practice putting green with 3 golf balls. Find an area of the fringe and stand back about 5 feet. Then simply roll the golf balls to that area of fringe trying to get as close as possible without going too far over where the fringe meets the green. Then once you've done this with 3 balls, repeat it again but this time close your eyes. Finally try doing it from the same spot but not use your putter and putt the balls to the edge of the fringe. You can do this with your eyes closed as well. Closing your eyes will help to magnify your other senses and you'll develop better feel by using this drill on the practice green.
