Control Your Distance On Pitch Shots
Learning how to control distance with your golf pitch shots will save you strokes around the green and help you to get up and down more often.
There Are A Couple Of Ways You Can Control Your Distance On Pitch Shots:
1) By The Length Of Your Swing
The farther away you are from the green the longer your swing should be for your pitch shot. Always make sure that your backswing and followthrough are approximately the same length. You never want to have a long backswing with a short followthrough as this will promote deceleration through the ball hurting your chances of a good shot. And if your backswing is too short with a long followthrough, chances are you are trying to scoop the ball too much and your left wrist is probably breaking down, not allowing you to make solid contact with the golf ball.
2) By The Speed Of Your Swing And Your Torso
You can make the same length swing on your pitch shots and control your distance simply by how fast you swing. As long as the rhythm is good and consistent, you will be able to vary the length you hit your shot by how fast your upper body turns through the ball. This is kind of a fun way to hit shots. On a short pitch shot, just make a half length swing, but don't turn as quickly as on a longer pitch shot. You'll be well on your way to getting up and down more often if you try these tips for better distance control.
